The Testimonies were by far the most numerous of the Church of God Awaiting's writings, consisting of the firsthand observations of the first few generations of humans on Safehold.

They did not have the same status as, for example, Christian gospels, because they did not reveal the central teachings and inspiration of God. Instead they formed an important substantiation of the Holy Writ's "historical accuracy" and conclusively attested to the fact that the events they collectively described did, in fact, transpire.
